Feeding the Famished Flower-Fans!

The opening of this year's prestigious Chorley Flower Show is but a few short days away and so the Jack's Ovens team are as busy as the proverbial bees! As we announced a couple of months ago here in the blog, our application to be one of the carefully-selected official food vendors at the annual event was accepted and so we are looking forward to spending three glorious days doing what we love best: creating and serving mouthwatering dishes to a buzzing crowd.

Flower shows take place all over the UK during the summer months; the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which has been established for more than 100 years, being perhaps the most prestigious and certainly the most well-known. It is thus a great compliment to the exceptional quality of the Chorley Flower Show that it has been dubbed as 'The Chelsea of the North'.

The sheer scale and popularity of the Chorley Flower Show, coupled with the fact that it is the proud recipient of a Lancashire Tourism Award, makes it hard to believe that the 2023 event is only the seventh in its history. For such a relative newcomer to the scene, the Chorley Flower Show has demonstrated that it means business and is here to stay, attracting greater numbers of visitors every year. Thousands of guests will stream through the gates on each of the three days that the show is open.

There will be plenty of attractions to fully occupy the attention of the crowds, not least the always-popular marquee dedicated to Professional Exhibitors. These garden geniuses, many of whom are holders of gold medals awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society, will be exhibiting their lovingly-grown fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants to a spellbound audience of enthusiasts.

Visitors who want to get more of a hands-on experience will enjoy the chance to take part in numerous competitions, from an amateur photography contest to a chance to win prizes by designing the ultimate dream garden. The Gardening Theatre will play host to a series of live demonstrations and talks, with some as-yet-unnamed celebrity gardeners rumoured to be in attendance!

When all of these activities have the inevitable effect of making guests feel in need of a fresh and tasty meal to restore their energy, Jack's Ovens will be there to provide it. Our gorgeous vintage Citroen van, which houses our fully-modernised kitchen on the inside, will be fittingly decked out with a riot of colourful flowers to mark the occasion. Daniel McKnight, our award-winning Head Chef and the founder of Jack's Ovens, is currently working on a very special menu and all will soon be revealed...!

The Chorley Flower Show will run from Saturday 29th to Monday 31st July, opening each day from 10am to 5pm.
